Construction of Cross-Docking and Cold-Storage Facility Begins in Kandal Province

The facility will support Cambodia’s growing import and export industries through international standard cold-storage services located near a port, and provide value-added services targeted at helping small-and-medium enterprises enter the trading market.

22 March 2022, Kandal Province – Today, Private Infrastructure Development Group Company InfraCo Asia, Khmer Cold Chain Company Limited (KCCC) and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) announced the commencement of construction of a controlled-temperature cold storage and cross-docking facility, located in the Kien Svay District of Kandal Province, Cambodia. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the facility site in Kandal Leu Village, attended by dignitaries from the Cambodian government and the governments of United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Singapore.

The Kandal Cold Storage project is an initiative by InfraCo Asia, through Khmer Cold Chain Company. The project has been developed by Infunde Development, InfraCo Asia’s dedicated developer team for Southeast Asia. Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) is a partner in the development and operation of the cold-storage and cross-docking facility.

The facilities will include a 50-foot cross-dock, which will serve Cambodian and regional farmers, agribusinesses, food processors, pharmaceutical companies, food retailers and hotel/restaurant catering (HORECA) businesses. According to the project’s feasibility study, an additional 140,000 cubic meters of capacity must be added to Cambodia’s existing cold storage volume to meet its supply chain needs by 2030. The new Khmer Cold Chain Company facilities will supply 36,205 cubic meters– filling more than 25% of the current gap – to meet this increasing market demand.

The cross-docking facility will also include a dedicated space for value-added services catering to smaller agricultural producers and distributors. The space would include facilities such as pre-cooling, co-packing and labeling, sanitary and phytosanitary services (SPS), picking, and direct store delivery. These services will help increase Cambodia-based small-and-medium enterprises’ (SME) ability to access higher-value domestic markets.
